Hi,

Anyone have opinion if it's worth going the extra and getting the Cube. Commuting around 160 miles a week and want to do some Sportive too. Just not sure if I would appreciate the difference and they are both decent bikes review-wise.
I'm a convert from MTB to road and really enjoying it.

Only one issue is i'm close on 100kg and had a few spoke pinging issues with my previous bike but they were crap wheels and once trued properly no recurring probs so a sturdy wheelset would be an asset.

Cheers

D

Hi and welcome. 160 miles a week is a damn good mileage. If you've only just started doing that you won't be 100kg for long :)

How about something like this http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m7b4s6p449 ... ITE-3-2012

Way better value than a 2014 model

I also came from a mountain bike background and brought a road bike as well, I have got a 2012 cube agree gtc pro and cannot fault it. I am 6"3 and was about 120kg (100kg now) when I brought it and have had no issues with it at all, frame stiff but compliant at the back.
Just remember to size up a bit with the cubes as they do come up a bit smaller than most other brands. Don't know much about the Giant Defy but it does get good reviews as well?.
  • Yeah, I have a Defy 1 and its a really nice bike to ride. Looks good, rides well. I was a bit nervous about drops but I feel really solid on the Defy.

Whichever bike you get, you'll enjoy it. :D

As the defy 2014 Defy 1 colours are hideous I would advise getting a 2013, if you can find one in your size. What size are you as I happen to be selling my Defy 0!
  • Cheers for the info guys. I think I'd be M in the Giant or ML. Going to ride both and see.

The Defy range gets good reviews but personally I find them boring.

Almost went for a Defy 1 myself, but after some research ended up going for a Canyon Ultimate AL 7, so glad I did.

Mine is M/L. How tall are you? It's currently on Ebay if you search Defy 0. I am selling it because at just under 5"10 I find it a bit too big. 5"10 up to about 6"1 and it should be perfect. As mine is black/blue rather than white it's definitely not boring!
  • Cheers Cam i found yours and it's def a nice looking bike. I will try and go to the LBS and try the frame sizes. Only issue for me is waiting for my claim to settle as i was upended by one of the car driving fraternity and my trusty Fuji met it's maker and i'm hoping they pay out for a new one fairly soon. I'm 5'10 and a pretty stocky build so not the tallest man in town. My Fuji was a 56cm frame and fitted perfectly.

Ok, no worries. Giant list the Defy M/L as having a 56cm top tube so might be spot on but best to try out as you say at LBS. Not sure about the Defy 2014 colours mind you. Think any remaining 2013 models will be in demand. Sorry to hear you had a bike written off, hope the careless driver paid for it?
  • Get the Cube if you havent already sorted it out. I bought the Peloton Race last year and my mate bought the Agree. The only issue we had was with the Easton wheels. Cube have stopped using them now and use the Fulcrum or Mavic on them instead. Just ordered the Agree GTC PRO for myself today, 2013 model with 3 years servicing and water bottles etc for £1075 from LBS. I was like you mate and 100k. About 85 now though lol!! :D
  • Hey Nelly, Could you name this LBS. The cube agree is the very steed i am after and i would be particularly interested in somewhere i could snaffle one up for £1075
  • Je James have the Cube Agree Pro at £999! Places like Cyclesurgery will price match ad well.
  • Hi sorry for the late reply been away !! Its Freeride Cycles in Disley. They have a couple left and the 2013 GTC PRO and Race reduced to £1075. Just ordered one myself yesterday and a Cube Acid 29er 2014 as my first MTB. :D With Cube bottles/holders and 3 years servicing all in !!
  • I bought a Cube Agree GTC Race last July and i was 142kgs!! (Not now) and its been rock solid, even the Easton wheels, though ive since replaced them.
Cant fault the bike at all, so i wouldnt worry about being 100kg, the Cube more than coped with me last year. Bullet-proof in my opinion (and i hit some pretty nasty potholes last winter too).
  • I picked a Cube Agree GTC Pro from Cycle Surgery yesterday for £999
    They price-matched with Winstanley Cycles.
The assistant checked online and the deal was done in a minute.

    Picking upon Tuesday.
  • :D Nice bikes, I got a shock deal today as they ran out of the 2013 models so I have been upgraded to the 2014 models with both bikes :P Fulcrum racing 3 wheels will be going on it and the Fulcrum 7's that come with it will be going on my Peloton Race.
