Hope your able to help me. I have worked on bike but only very basic things. Changing bars/stem/general maintenance etc
I have purchased some new wheels which will be arriving tomorrow. I have never removed/installed a cassette before. Is anyone able to tell me the process and/or if I need any specialist tools or new parts? the cassette is a Sram PG1030 10s 11-36. The new hub is a Superstar Switch Evo, the old hub is a standard commencal disc hub.
Thanks in advance

Remove wheel from bike, hold cassette (and hence the freehub) in place using a chainwhip and undo the retaining nut using the right tool turned by a spanner or ratchet.
Refitting is the reverse of removal (no need for the chainwhip though as the freehub only spins freely one way!).Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Thanks Rookie, I went to my lbs to buy the chainwhip and also the nut removal tool of which the had neither in stock. They told me I could order both in for this week for £18. I asked if they had the tools to do it and how much they would charge to replace. They decided as they didn't have the tools to do it for free, so I upgraded the cassette to slx in the process.
So I still haven't attempted the job and haven't learnt how to do it.... nevermind.Commencal Ramones Cromo 13 - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=129269380 -
They aren't ripping you off at £18, but this has those and most other tools you need.

mcnultycop, thank you for the link. I think it will be best to get one of these. Everytime I try and attempt a job its the tool I havent got that stops me.Commencal Ramones Cromo 13 - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=129269380

I bought exactly that kit. Everything in it has lasted well and I've not needed a great deal else.0

Quick question regarding the tool kit, will it remove cranks that are Isoflow / powerspline type? I was going for Park Tools CWP7C to play it safe, but if this kit can do it then it's worth a buy.
