I'm probably going to a Roadlite AL from Canyon but I'm a tad unsure what size to get. I've currently got a 54cm Allez and its been fine. I have no problem with the geometry but being a bit upright wouldn't probably not go a miss.
height 178cm
inside leg 82cm

Geometry Canyon 53 (s) Canyon 56 (M) Allez (54)

Top Tube 533 545 548
Seat Tube 515 545 500
Head Tube 163 175 145
Spacers 25 25 20
Reach 365 373 387

I was set for ordering a medium (56) and thought I'd check Canyon's size calculator and it recommends a small (53) :|

I posted a similair thread a while ago which may give you some info.

I'm a good bit shorter than you and ordered the Ultimate AL in a small, fits me fine although the seat post has a good 3 or 4 inch of travel left on it.

I phoned the Canyon UK Service Centre (number on their website) and the chap advised the PPS gives a fairly aggressive fit. Based on my figures the PPS recommended an extra small but he agreed that a small would fit better, particularly for longer distance riding and a more upright position.

  • Hi,

I just went through the Canyon frame sizing exercise as well when buying a Canyon CF 7.0. I'm 178cm and the online frame size guide recommended a 52cm frame, which I thought was a bit small because I had been tested the Specialized Tarmacs and Giant Defy Composite 2 in a 54cm/M which were the right size.

I rang the Canyon UK team and gave them my measurements and they recommended the 54cm based on my height and reach (I have a marginally shorter inseam length than average).

I'm not sure about the Roadlite/Allez comparison, but if you compare the CF/Tarmac the combined top tube and stem lengths combinations are about 1cm different and the angles vary by 0.5-1 degree from memory (not a perfect or fullp-roof fitting technique I know). The only significant difference in the geometries was the seat tube length, but this is skewed due to the dip in the Specialized top tube.

Long story short, from what I could tell and the advice I was given (independent of Canyon) was the CF/Tarmac geometries are fairly similar, so this could also be true of the Roadlite/Allez.

Thank you for the replies guys. I thought I' d phone Canyon and get their opinion. After discussing the Allez/Roadlite geometries he advised going with the small and using a longer stem (110mm) to bring the reach up to nearly the same as the allez. He also mentioned standover height could be an issue with a 56.

I just did some measurements on the Allez and 2 things were apparent:
    1. I dont have a great deal of seat post showing on the Allez (about 5 inches) the Roadlite would cut that down to nearly 3 with the longer seat tube. Probably not important.
2.More importantly, I dont have a lot of of saddle to bar drop on the Allez, about 100mm and probably wouldnt find another 10 uncomfortable if I put the remaining spacer on top of the stem. The 56 roadlite has a much longer headtube and stack so would end up with an even smaller drop.

in a bit of a dilemma, really not sure what size to go for. Not being able to try the frames for fit is putting me off buying one, which is gutting as I REALLY want one :( I was going to go for a small (on the advice of the canyon rep) even though in my mind it seemed too small, and get a 110mm stem. Since discovered, you cant spec the bike with a longer stem and it cant be replaced with any other stem due to the tube being a bigger diameter. From reading, you can only buy a longer stem, or send the original back for a replacement :?

Did you ever buy a Canyon?? Seriously considering but the sizing is all over the place. I'm 178cm but inside leg of less than 80cm. The online sizing tool say XS! I currently ride a 56 Secteur, although between a 54 and 56 really. Any advice most welcome.
