Murderous Taxi drivers, Lombard St - City of London.

For anyone that uses it (specifically the 2-way for cycling lane) and has been driven at and abused by rat run black cabs. I emailed the city police and the corporation of London complaining that whilst the building works were going on the cab drivers simply refused to yield to oncoming cyclists even though they had to pull over onto the wrong side of the road to get past the site delivery trucks. It was very much a, "please can you ask someone to take a look" email and i wasn't expecting anything back but wanted a record of a complaint in case someone was killed or badly injured there. I've been forced off the road almost every time i use it and on one occasion i was wedged between the oncoming cab and the 'safety' barrier to protect peds.

Anyway, nothing from the police (surprise surprise) but a nice man call Bob from the city of london highways department emailed me this today, along with his email and mobile number. Was nicely surprised.

"I refer to your message re the traffic arrangements by the building site. I have spoken with the site director and requested he instructs his staff on the street to be more proactive in controlling the east bound vehicle movements, to try to hold the traffic whenever cyclist are coming against the usual flow. If you feel that there is no improvement please contact me, I shall be monitoring the situation whenever I am that area as often as possible."

Fair play to them. 8)

At least you got a response, which is something. Personally I don't have trouble from Black Taxis - I think most of them just accept that cyclists are part of the London landscape now. It's the Tipper Lorries that frighten me.......
