Some help re Strava please.

My wife and I rode the same ride today in the alps and have both uploaded the ride to our Strava accounts. When we review them there are many more segments available on my ride rather than hers. Any ideas how we can get these segments to show on her ride?

It boils down to the accuracy of the GPS data. If it's not that good Strava will ignore it and ignore the segments.

I don't think you can get Strava to recognise the segments. Just be sure that whatever GPS device you use has a good view of the sky.

There's a website somewhere, I think you can get to it off the RaceShape website, which allows you to edit your ride and snap the GPS track to the nearest road if the signal has wandered off and you've missed some segments
  • Don't quote me on this but think you can flag your own ride and raise it with Strava saying bad GPS data and tell them what segments were missed and the support people can add them.

The app should do this by default I thinks, maybe one day.

SNAP (Strava Needs a polish) works a treat, well it did a couple of weeks ago.

  • Just tried it on a ride that missed one of my segments due to tree cover and it works a treat, just had to delete the old ride of before it would accept the new data. Bookmarked it now for future use :)

You can contact strava and ask them to add segments, I did it when it failed to recognise and alpine climb I did.

After it had finished creating the polished file did you click open file rather than save? If you save the file without opening it is saves it in TCX format ready to then upload to Strava, but before uploading it do remember to delete the ride you are fixing or it will fail as a duplicate.
  • Are you leaving the wifi on? I used to turn mine off thinking it would prolong battery life, turns out my phone uses it to assist location.

    Wifi off: 5 segments
    Wifi on: 20 plus :)

    Android Samsung Nexus S

when I click on "Generate Polished File" there's no option to open file but rather "Download and upload to Strava". I click that (assuming the new .tcx file is being downloaded) and the page on my screen becomes filled with a load of code....How and where can I retrieve the downloaded .tcx file?? presumably I will need to upload the downloaded .tcx file manually in Strava right?

anyone with the same experience please help....

sounds like your browser is set to view tcx files inline rather than download them ...

what browser and version are you using?
In firefox - open Options, click on the Applications tab, type in "tcx" in the filter/search box and make sure the entry is set to "Always Ask" or "Download"
