Di2 rattle noise

I've just bought a scott cr1 pro premium with Di2 and the shifters make a constant rattle sound, its really noticeable when your hands are gripping the flat bars and in the drops, it dampens out slightly when your hands are gripping tightly over the hoods.

Is this normal with Di2 to make these buzzing rattle sounds?

    No. Is it the faceplate?

A squirt of silicone sealant behind the faceplates sort this out. I had this on my 1st gen 105 9sp shifters and bathroom sealant sorted it. If this doesn't work, I'll take the 'faulty' shifters off you for postage
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I can't hear anything on your video.

    Mine are silent.

sorry you'll have to turn your volume up, I recorded it on my iPhone so there is some wind noise and the quality is not great but you can hear it if you listen closely. here's another longer video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bya6DqhsaK0

I'm just wondering if other people with di2 have experienced this and just put up with it?

    No, mine are pretty quiet.

Are both shifters making that noise?

It sounds like some of the electrons might be loose.

I'm going for the flux capacitor.

    Either way, it needs fixing.

I'm sure di2 ultegra are not meant to rattle, buzz vibrate like on my bike, it's really annoying when it costs so much money, my local LBS have replaced one shifter and told me its still making the same noise, and it's just 'normal' and there is nothing wrong with it.
  • No they arent meant to rattle. Mine dont rattle at all.

Are they done up tight enough on the bars?

Are you sure its the shifters? Sounds like something else to me and not the shifters.

Just got shown various makes and models Scott foil, cube, focus, all with di2 fitted that rattle exactly the same as my bike, I'm totally unhappy with it but I'm having to suffer and put up with this ridiculous buzzing, hopefully I'll crash it soon and buy a different bike

Mine don't rattle either - you should be getting a near silent ride. If all the bikes in the shop rattle either Shimano have made a backwards upgrade and introduced a rattle, or the build QC has gone awry. Either way I'd take it higher. If your LBS believe it's normal ask them to get confirmation from higher up the food chain that it is. I doubt that Shimano would be impressed at this news.

Your LBS are missing something here. Drop Shimano a mail and ask for some guidance.

Either that or it's time to take your bike elsewhere and then send the bill to your LBS.

It's a bit of a struggle to get in touch with shimano? not sure how best to contact them? might take the bike to another shop and see what they say, good advice

There was a faulty batch of shifters. a colleague of mine who clearly has a more useful LBS, investigated with Shimano who concurred and replaced them for him. GO back to your supplying retailer and demand satisfaction

You could try talking to Madison, I think they're Shimano's UK distributor

Why would you buy a different bike just because the shifters rattle? You've already been told by several people on here its not normal, so either get it sorted by another LBS or contact Shimano.

Either that or you're a SRAM?Campag troll?

I'd buy another bike because I'm not entitled to a refund, because its not faulty in their eyes, another shops opinion would be nice but why would they care? I didn't buy it from them. I'm not a troll just a disgruntled ordinary cyclist. I'm very surprised everyone else has silent di2 shifters and no annoying noises like me.

Mine (Ultegra Di2) rattle/buzz/vibrate slightly if my hands are on the flats. As soon as I grasp the hoods it goes away.

    Annoyance factor = 3/10

I can put up with it, though I'd prefer it be completely quiet. Mine was bought in June 2012 as part of a complete bike, so maybe later iterations have been sorted out.

Exactly the same problem as mine, we shouldn't have to put up with it considering the price, if its a dodgy batch they should just come clean and replace them all.
