Not biked for a few years now. Previously had a Specialized Hardrock Pro but can't really afford similar now. Looking at getting one of the following but would like some help in narrowing it down. Hoping some of you can share your wisdom.

Thanks in advance.

The Rockrider, only decent fork (damped) and it will be a lot better bike than the Lardrock as well.....

Consider also Carrera Vulcan or Voodoo Bantu from Halfords, the Vulcan has better vrakes and the Bantu better fork again.

At this price point Spesh only offer tat as do most the other 'big brand' names, and you have to spend circa twice as much to get the same as the budget brands offer.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Thanks for the reply. Had seen some good reviews on the Rockrider and it's the cheapest!
Was swaying that way but it's good to hear someone else confirm it
    Cheers.

Yep it's a much better bike, cable discs need more ongoing maintenance (just adjustment, nothing major) to keep them tip top, but otherwise all good.

  • Yep once you get over the really really cheap Decathlon bikes (which are still better than most at the same price) you'd probably need to paying 1.5-2 times the price of BTwin to get the same from a big brand.

Just as an update for you, I ended up with the Vulcan!
Was by far the comfiest for me so paid the extra but feel I got a good bike for the money. Built it myself after reading reviews of Halfords and it's been faultless for the few rides I've had. A little on the heavy side but that translates to a solid/planted feeling once moving. As I've not ridden for a good few years it gives a feeling of confidence and think I'll find I start to push myself.
Just need to start saving now for the inevitable upgrades!!

    Thanks again for the replies.
