Noisy new chain?

My new chain is squeaking. It’s a KMC X-10, nothing fancy, but the one on my road bike will happily handle eight cogs from either chainring without squeaking, whereas this one is only silent on about three. Which isn’t much. This is a brand new chain doing this, although it spent a couple of months in its box while I collected other bits for the bike. Is it always going to squeak, or is there some magic lubricant I can put on it that will quieten it down?

Don't understand what's going on there. Factory grease is magic lubricant in my opinion.

when was the last time you lubed the jockey wheels?

Now there's a thought. The answer is of course never, since the rear derailleur is only a couple of months old as well, but it could always be one that missed out on the grease in the factory.

I've kept forgetting this until I get out on the bike, at which time I can't be bothered to go back and try it, but last night I gave the jockey wheels a shot of experimental oil (3-in-1, which is quite handy for experimenting because it's quick to apply. If it works, you clean it off and do a proper re-greasing) and it worked! So it's possible to get squeaky jockey wheels on a brand-new derailleur. Thanks for the tip!

I thought the higher end rear derailleurs have sealed cartridge bearings in the jockey wheels so shouldn't squeak or make any noise ?
