I have just bought a second hand ultegra 6700 10 speed cassette to go on my defy 1. I have a set of 2012 fulcrum racing 5 wheels which I also used on my tricross. Those wheels have had the 2300 8 speed cassette, the hg-50 8 speed cassette on when on the tricross and then the 10 speed tiagra cassette on the defy. They were all fine and fit perfectly. The ultegra however is loose and looks like it needs a spacer of some sort. Is this spacer a normal requirement? Should it be with the wheels or the cassette?

Yes, you need the spacer and yes it should be included in the cassette... is it not?

Shimano 10 speed spacer should come with the cassette. (10 speed Tiagra doesn't need one)

on a multi-speed compatible hub, a 10-speed shimano cassettes *except* tiagra, will need a spacer

it's 1mm, it is supplied with the cassette

the person who sold you the 6700 cassette has left out the spacer

you can get one from lbs or online, for instance...

send the seller a message but had no response. Edinbough cycles have one for £3 so i guess I'll have to go and get that enough though its quite a trek out of my way.
  • I have a CS6700 cassette, still in it's box (not fitted it yet) and can confirm as well as the cassette cogs itself, on the bottom is a small spacer. I believe you can buy them seperately for not much.

The one behind my 10 speed 105 cassette is a plain one as per the Edinburgh Cycles listing rather than the fancy notchy one linked by Sungod

round or notched, either style is ok as long as it's 1mm

I just went from a Tiagra cassette where I needed a single 1mm spacer to a 105 cassette where I needed 2 1mm spacers to get rid of any play.

    Both 10sp cassettes.

The one with my Ultegra cassette is not notched either.

and the hub is a ? as on a shimano or Sram 8/9/10spd hub the Tiagra 10spd cassette does not require a spacer.
