1 x 8 - Chain jumping off on lower gears (bigger rings)

My 3rd question in as many days
Hi, i am running a 1 x 8 setup and the chain is jumping off the front and coming on to the BB axle when i try and use any of the 3 largest sprockets at the back. I am certain that i have bought an "8 speed" Chain. The chain is a Shimano HG 40. The chain and cassette are both brand new, but the 32t ring at the front has been used beforehand, but isnt worn.
Is the problem because the chainring is bolted on the outer side of the crank? And i need to get one that mounts on the inner side of the crank?
The chain is completely fine in every other circumstance. No jumping, slipping or anything else. It hasnt even come off on rough terrain.
Thanks

Is there anything more than hope keeping the chain on, like a front mech or guide?I don't do smileys.

Nothing there at all, just hope keeping it there at the mo. But even with a guide, wouldnt it just rub like mad rather than fall off?0

With the ring on the outside of the spider the chainline is going to be a bit nasty.
But either way with nothing to stop it coming off it's going to come off.I don't do smileys.

+1 chain guide needed or it will come off, just needs to tease it back on as it starts to come off and then the chainring will hold it there.
Outside of the spider is OK if you're using a narrow axle, measure the chainline (centre line of seat tube to centre of the chainring).Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
I think i may go for a 32t inner ring (i think i should be able to find one?) and a guide. What is the cheapest sort of guard i can get? I know they usually cost an arm and a leg...something like 50 quid for some, which is almost the same budget that i have for my fork!!0

A front mech limited to one ring. Next to nothing on Ebay. Or free if you have one lying around.I don't do smileys.

I havent got any left that fit, they are all for skinny retro frames...i have like 8 and not one fits. Plus i think it would look a bit weird.
As for the chainring, do i just move it to the inside of the crank (doesnt look like it will make a world of difference) or get one that fits on the inner side of the crank. I can only find 22/24t inner rings though0 -
2 ways of doing a cheap chain guide
1/ Outer bash ring (if you use a ring in the middle location) and N-gear jump stop
2/ Superstar XCR for £16.99 http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=362Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
