m310 shifter reassembly/replacement

bit of a strange one really, last week i took the bike out and hit a bit of a bump when dropping down a gear.
this caused my gear shifter to fall apart, and the bottom of the 2 shifters was hanging off....
tonight i opened it up and it fell apart, but it was clear that somehow the bolt at the bottom was loose.
i tried to reattach everything but got puzzled by a coil-y springy bit and how it should be reattached.......
i think its easier to replace the entire part, but im dubious about doing it myself
its a 3 speed front side, and i assume i have to remove the bar grips, slide off the shifter and fit the new one......
however, do i have to replace the entire gear cable and reindex the gear? - i hope not as i cannot do this (i have a disability and i just cant do stuff with my hands - and if i know its that i will just pay for someone to do this...
any advice (or even if someone knows how to reassemble it!
