Chain tools for 10 speed

I need to upgrade a cassette/chain on my 10 speed (Ultegra chain + cassette) and have a couple of questions.

Will a 9 speed chain tool work as the new chains don't seem to have the solid pins of my old bike?

Any tips for changing or repairing a chain?

tool will be ok

instead of using a pin to fit the chain, use a kmc link, then it's easy to remove for cleaning/servicing
