Mavic Ksyrium rebuild cost?
Hi,
I had an accident just outside of Richmond Park on friday afternoon.
This was the result (what I can remember) the inner tube going and then causing my tyre to crumble and sent me veering to the left. I tried to slammed my brakes.
However normally I would have bounced off the side of the pavement, but this is what greeted me -
What happen to me? I was catapulted over my handlebars and thrown towards the pavement, landing chin first and smashing it, causing a very deep cut which needed 6 stitches in Kingston Hospital. Finally got seen and left to go home after 4 hrs. The helmet didnt save me.
This is the front wheel.
Would Mavic rebuild this wheel as from what I can see is that the rim is wrecked and 2 spokes are broke.
Any advice is welcome. Currently resting up and annoyed that this happend

Mavic would probably do a good job but charge you a fortune. Try and find a good wheel builder. Make sure the impact hasn't shattered the bearings because re-building the wheel would be a waste of time.
I like the Ksyriums, they are bullet proof but unforgiving. A while ago, when my Ksyriums had bitten the dust, I bought a pair of Campag Sciroccos as a replacements as I could not afford the Ksyriums. The Sciroccos ironically were a much better wheel.
As you're resting up, why not treat yourself to a new pair of hoops?
PS. Please don't bash the tarmac with your chin in Richmond Park, other people have to use the roads too you know and I think its pretty selfish of you.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
You have a trashed rim and a number of trashed spokes. New wheel time, me thinks.
Sorry to hear of your accident.0 -
No - they're fukkked. Make them into a comedy coffee table. Time for some Planet X 50 carbons that are cheaper and better. (I have both so know!)0

Yeh I gathered the look pretty fooked.
The rim is beyond repair, but I would say the rest is intact.
Ive been trying to source a second hand SL front wheel and missed out on one for £77.
Will keep on looking. The back wheel is fine, but probably worth getting it checked out regardless.
I dont think I can afford a pair of planet x wheels (they do look lovely) as I am not that competitive and bought the SL second hand to enjoy a better and efficient ride. I decided to skip the Elites and straight to the next one up.
The impact shook through my body and might have affected the bike somewhat?
I had the sciroccos on my old bianchi, but sold them on. I do miss them, but love the look of the SL's.

I agree, therefore I replaced the bashing with my blood and skin. Since its biodegradable, it will benefit the surroundingsN2 - SW1

The Mavic UK Service Centre are in Frimley, Surrey and can rebuild your wheel, but the cost of a replacement SL rim in somewhere between £150-200, plus the costs of spokes and workshop time. It'll probably be cheaper to but a replacement off ebay. BTW if you have a propensity for hitting potholes, last thing I'd recommend is a carbon wheelMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Thanks for the info.
This was definatly a one off freak accident as I have been cycling since a child and took into MTB trials in the nearly 90's before trying out road cycling the last few years.
Cycling in and around central London makes you aware of any potholes and I would say I wouldnt have a propensity of hitting any potholes
I will ring them up for a quote nonetheless for piece of mind.N2 - SW1

Well it was a superficial wound, but I am happy I didnt land on my mouth or face. I landed straight onto the side of the pavement where it is raised
