Hi

I am having problems getting mud guards to fit this bike? Halfords were not able to help, Boardman recommended Crud Road Racers MK2 which I bought but have found I can fit the rear guard but the brake calliper on the front wheel is in such a position that it prevents me avoiding the guard from rubbing on the tyre. Unfortunately it rains often where I live so I need mudguards. I am not really bothered if they are clip ons or whatever just as long as they do the job. I can only hope that someone on this site already has fitted a set to this bike. So far the advice I have received is from people who do not seem to know anything about the subject and are really just guessing. When I purchased the bike from Halfords I had ordered it with mud guards but when I collected it no mud guards, they admitted to me that they had tried but failed to find a suitable mud guard. I also tried Wiggle and again I had to return what they recommended.

SKS Raceblades will fit and give ok protection. I have them on my winter bike.

Life is like riding a bicycle: you don't fall off unless you stop pedaling.

If you want mudguards that "do the job" then don't get clip-ons. The Team Hybrod has mudguard eyelets front and rear and is designed to take full-length, bolt-on mudguards.
The best bolt-on model is SKS chromoplastic, it comes in a variety of widths, the medim size (P45) is probably right. P35 is good up to 28m.
There may be some interference between the mudguard stays and the disc brake calipers. This can be averted by routing the metal stays around the brakes, they can be bent and angled with no ill effects.
There are some tips and tricks when fitting chromoplastics but once fitted, they stay solidly attached and rattle-free for many years. The safety quick release is an essential feature that really works.
  • If the Hybrid Team is similar is style to the Hybrid COMP then, as above, I'd also recommend the SKS Chromoplastics (P35 or P45). I use the P35's on mine with the standard 700x28c. I did have to bend the stays for the mudguards around the front caliper though, but this was relatively straighforward.

Another vote for the SKS Chromoplastics. I fitted a pair to my Hybrid Comp last night (700 x 35-38) and they seem spot on. Relatively straightforward, bit of trimming and bending of the supports but generally fitted without too much hassle.
