Garmin 510 "Virtual Racer" problems...
Anybody got this feature to work properly yet? I'm really struggling to get it working as it should.
I've gone from a 705 to a 510. One of the main uses for my 705 was pacing in TTs. When ever I did a new course I'd record it in the same way - hit start when the time keeper says "ten seconds", do the ride, hit stop when I crossed the line (as soon as I could see again!). I'd then save this a course on the unit. Then when I raced the same course again I'd use the 705 for pacing - Menu>Training>Courses>select course X. I'd then get a screen showing time, speed, distance, a little graphic of two riders and most usefully, distance ahead/behind. This was black if ahead, red if behind. Keep that number black and you'd get a new PB. Easy.
I'd have thought as a much newer model the 510 would do this with ease but I just cant get it to work. I've created courses from a few TTs in the way described above, saving the race as a course. I've then selected Course>course x and hit "ride" when given the 10 second count. All that happens is a couple of seconds later I get the "failure tone" and a notice saying "Virtual partner finished".
Initially I though it might be the little bit of overlap on a circular course that was causing this but I cant even get it to work on an incomplete lap of a circuit i.e. ridden with no overlapping bits.
What's going on? Why does the 5 year old 705 do this much better than the 510. Has anybody got this feature to work properly?
Thanks in advance.
Jon
