As there are loads of sales on at the moment I was thinking of getting some new kit and the team rep stuff is all at good process.
Waddya say - although I'm not a pro should I go for it?
You can also get Tour of France jerseys dirt cheap - as I tend to ride on main roads a lot I was thinking of a yellow or polka dot jersey for safety reasons - if the buggers can't see me in that what can they see me in) - waddya say?

You may joke but I've just acquired a BMX so a helmet like that may be in the offing. BMXs rock.0 -
Yes, of course you should get some pro kit, but only if it's like this...

Team Kit - Yes but only jersey with plain shorts. Matching jersey and shorts looks a bit like 'dressing up'
Yellow, Polka dot, Rainbow jersey - No. These are prizes won and earned. Wearing them when you haven't earned the right to do so is wrong. Some people believe this elitism. Simply put, they are wrong. It's the equivalent of turning up at your local Karate club, for your first night, wearing a black belt.
National Kit is fine, so long are you aren't from that country.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -

Okey dokey. So, yellow jersey (ie standard Nalini job) or "yellow" jersey Tour of France job - maybe the only difference is the shade of yellow? Go for whichever is cheaper? Must admit to be being confused.
I would have thought from a safety point of view the polka dot sprinter's jersey would have rocked.
Pina: I've been looking at the poncho again - actually looks quite a good idea. Can you get these in Gore Tex or similar? Rapha?0 -
Who gives a to$$ ...Wear whatever you want, if you like the polka jersey, buy it and wear it, who gives a flying f'k what these idiots think of you wearing an "earned" jersey.... It's just a jersey, wear what you want.
Think of it in the same way a football / rugby / etc. shirt with some pro guys name printed on the back i.e. "Rooney" printed on your back, you're not Rooney and you didn't "earn" the right to wear a manchester football shirt did you, so why do millions wear them!?!?!?!?
Don't go down the "Must follow all other cycling muppets and please them so I'm accepted by "their sport"" route.... Just get what you like and wear it, there are no rules!0 -
As junglist_matty says....0

No - its serious. There are so many deals going around (plus I get an extra 10% at most places) that it seems silly to not do it.
People like Evans/Probikekit.com/etc are doing sort of buy 1 get 1 free deals so I was thinking of full team kit - if I can get it to match the bike as well that's a double deal.
Ok, I'll never be a Tour of France or a Tour of Italy rider, but if its cheap enough. And if I get it a size larger than I need ok it'll be baggy at first (does anyone notice?) but its incentive to get me up the gym to fill it.
Matching sunnies and helmet as well ..................
As an aside - does anyone know how bright the best young rider's green jersey from the Tour of France is? Is it like that Cannondale green - really bright and therefore stand out loads - or is it blend into the background get killed disease by a car green?
Another option is to look for an amateur club kit that rocks - ok, I might never live in that area or ride with them but the extra money will help their coffers. Something like this?0 -
i call shenanigans here0

Are you sure? How come Cavendish was wearing a white jersey last season - he won the youngest rider competition.
I'm sure that the overall winner wears yellow, that can't be contested (no pun intended), the man who wins most sprinters stages wears the polka dot one, youngest winner is green. N'est ce pas?
Same as in the Tour of Italy - pink is for the youngest man to win most stages.0 -

Yes.
Cavendish was wearing the "not won very much" jersey. You'll note that Gilbert is wearing it this year.0 -
Is that why Cancellara and Schleck wear the same jerseys then - C being champion time triallister and S being champion of the Tour of France because Contador lost his titles?0

I quite agree. This is turning into a extreme case of "oh bollox, I thought we were going to have some fun".
I have therefore decided to go off topic until someone posts something half funny.
In the psychologists waiting room, one bloke is sitting in a chair prtetending to saw a piece of imaginary wood. The other is hanging from the ceiling by his ankles. The psychologist walks in and asks the bloke sawing an imaginary piece of wood "What are you doing?" the man replies "I am pretending to saw a piece of wood". "And whats he doing?" to which the man replies "Oh, he thinks he is a light bulb".
The psychologist says to the first man "There doesn't seem to be a lot wrong with you. Can you help me get him down from there?" the man sawing an imaginary piece of wood says "No please don't do that, I won't be able to see the piece of wood I am sawing up".
Not that funny, but a hell of a lot funnier than this thread.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
Agree - no one really took the bait. Bit sad really.
Fekk them - I'm going to dress up in rubbish Marmite and Heinz baked beans tops and ride bikes from Decathlon with 200 spacers under the stem with my knees sticking out like a farmer.0 -
should have tried in cake stop at the very least, road beginners would have been best mind, plenty of bites there methinks0
-
Good plan - will leave it a few weeks then head over ensuring that you all know what is going on.0
