When do the prices drop?

I'm planning on getting a new HT, but I'm not in any mad rush. As it is warm and summery at the mo, I'm assuming that this is the 'selling season' and that I'll get more for my money if I hang on a bit and buy when the weather turns colder.
So when do retailers start discounting 2013 bikes to make way for 2014 models?

They don't always. As 2014 bikes are more expensive and less well specced, you have a price differentiator already. But if they are, any yime from now, is no set schedule.

I think a lot depends on the price range of bike you're looking at. With sub-£600 bikes, the opportunities might be quite good while with £600-£1000 ish bike the opportunities will be a lot less. With bikes at £1000+ most manufacturers will try to sell almost all of the current year's models before the new models arrive, so old stock bargains are much harder to find.

Making them that much sweeter when you do find one of course...

I am just picking my Cannondale Flash 29er Alloy 2 on Saturday, and it was on sale (£600.01 below MSSP)... BTW there are a lot of 2012 bikes on sale!

Wiggle have got quite a big sale on at the moment and I noticed that Giant in Twickenham had discounted quite a few of their road bikes when I was in there this week, can't remember if they had done the mtb's as well.

september onwards is my experience, but it varies a bit depending upon release schedules and how well the current model range is selling.
