New tyres popping off the rim

Just replaced my tyres on my trek 1.5. Originals had done 3000mls and not a single puncture.

Anyhow on today's ride going up a very steep hill the inner tube exploded. Truth be told I felt a rub just before it exploded so I think it was the tyre had burped off and the tube caught the brake and exploded.

Then we got the fun of inflating the replacement. 5 times I set the tyre on the rim and inflated the tyre with the co2 canister. 5 times it blew off the rim. Then I ran out of co2. 2 miles walk before I got to a house that had a bike pump and it worked first time.

Is there any tips for this? Tyres are Planet X rage. Cheap but a big improvement in speed on the bonty s that were fitted

You may have got the tube trapped under the bead of the tyre, or not seating the bead of the tyre into the rim properly.

One issue of canisters is that it is hard to get a little pressure into the tube and check everything is seated properly.

very likely that the tube was trapped, both initially and after the CO2 inflates. Did you really have 5 CO2 canisters with you? Most I ever take is 2. I blow a little air into the valve first, check seating thoroughly, then crack the bottle.
  • No not 5 co2 canisters. Small amount of air in. Pop inside the tyre half on the rim to reduce chances of pinching or getting the tube under the tyre. Pop tyre back on then inflate. On last attempt I even deflated the tube so as to go around the rim and make sure tyre was seated properly. I had 5 goes at inflating the tyre with one co2 canister.
  • It worked first time with the pump I borrowed. Maybe the speed with which the co2 canister inflated the tyre encouraged the tyre off the rim.
