Shimano Sora 9 Speed Rubber Hoods
Hi,
New to the forum and looking for a little help please. I do everything when it comes to my bike maintenance but not sure about this one.
The Rubber Hoods on my Gear Levers are worn and torn and I have purchased some replacements but I have a question in relation to the Gear cables. Unlike most gear levers, where the gear cable is under the handle bar tape, the Sora gear levers have the gear cable coming out of the side of the gear lever.
Here is a picture of the gear levers I have: http://www.highonbikes.com/shimano-sora ... f0lKdJJPwY
So my issue here is that in order to pull the rubber hoods off over the gear lever I have to remove the gear cables. Do I simply just put the gear into the smallest cog and then pull the lever and undo the screws? Is this an easy job? Has anyone done this before on this type of lever?
My bike is a Trek 1.2 2013 Model.
Any help here would be appreciated.

Only getting round to this today but before I start I want to be 100%. If you can, can you take a look at the below tech document.
http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/techd ... 800256.pdf
Now, all I am trying to do is remove the cable from the lever while I put on the new hood. To remove the cable from the lever do I have to remove sections 2,3,5 and 7? Or do I just have to remove 2 and 3?
Thanks in advance, and sorry for the basic questions, still learning.0 -
Ok,
I have managed to remove all of the housing etc from the gear lever and I can move the gear cable within it seating but I cant get the cable out of the seating due to the cable end (stop).
See here:
The image shows all the plastic casing etc, but I have removed all of this aswell down to the metal.
The cable is loose but there is no way to completely remove is so I can slide the new hood over.
I dont want to cut the cable because It is new and I want to re-seat it once I have the hood replaced.
I cant see any other screws or clips, how do I get the cable out?
Looking at it, I must be missing something!0
