puncture troubles

Over the last few months I've been inundated with rim-side punctures. I fitted new Ritchey rim tape (other brands are available) and went over the whole inner section of the rim with fine emery and removed any burrs I found. Now they have ceased for a couple of weeks until yesterday.
Rear tyre pressure at 100psi (Conti GP4000s, 25's) - went out for about 20 mile ride. All fine till I put the bike in the garage and stood outside taking off helmet and shoes. Then the rear tyre suddenly let loose for no reason at all. It was just resting up against the garage wall.
Loads of times over the past weeks I have gone to get my bike only to find the tyre flat, normally, but not exclusively, the rear one. Now I see how it happens, but why? What on earth would cause this spontaneous deflation? Checking the inner tube there was a small rip in the wall on the inside where it rests against the rim tape, but absolutely nothing sharp in the vicinity that might cause it. Any clues? Its costing me a lot of time and inner tubes plus an uncertain feeling whenever I ride that a tube is going to blow up on me again.

    1) change the tyre - then

use a sharpie on the rim to mark where it happens - twice in a row in the same place - its gotta be something in there....or the fairy has set up permanent residence with you ;)
