    GOD wrote:
I was bored and went hid for six days. The Archangel Gabriel found me resting on the seventh day.

"What have You been up to?" he said.

"I've created the planet Earth and it will be a place of great balance."

    "Balance?" said Gabriel.

    I explained.

North America would be wealthy and South America would be poor.

"Over there I've placed a continent of white people, and over there a continent of black people."

    I talked of different countries.

"That one will be hot and that one will be covered with ice."
Gabriel was impressed and pointed to an area in England and said:

    "What's that?"

    "Ah," I said

"That is Yorkshire, the most glorious place on Earth. There will be beautiful lakes, streams, rivers and hills, great music, architecture, and sporting giants. The people from Yorkshire will be modest, intelligent and witty. They will be sociable, hard working and high achievers. They will be known throughout the world as diplomats and peace-makers."

Gabriel gasped in admiration, thought for a moment, and said: "But what about balance, God? You said there will be balance."

I said, nodding sagely, "let me tell you about Lancashire..."

No, cause they're northern, malnourished English. So about the same as Welsh dwarves.

Yorkshire is the original two Ridings, plus York and the original North Yorkshire.

None of this Humberside, Cleveland or South Yorkshire nonsense!

not quite right. riding is derived from thirding. north west and east.
    south was part of West.

    ^^^^^This.
South Yorkshire was formed in 1974 from part of one of the original 3 Ridings(West)Humberside was formed from the East Riding and part of the North riding was taken to form Cleveland.I was only 4 but remember my grandparents still saying they lived in the West Riding for years after SYorks was made.
Hull I think is "technically" East Yorks?

Leviticus 25:44 states I may possess slaves both male and female as long as they are purchased from neighboring nations. I think I'll have a welsh or two.

Well, since we've got such a beautiful land, we need somewhere to use as a landfill site.

North was never a riding. It has always been North Yorkshire.

therefore, pre 1974, there was North Yo0rkshire, The West Riding of Yorkshire, and The East Riding of Yorkshire. plus York
