Hi guys, first post so please be easy with me.
I have had a set of Dura ace c50 clincher wheels on my Canyon cf for the last year or so and up until three months ago everything was great. Recently though over a period of time I have noticed a juddering when breaking on the front wheel. This has gradually became more and more unbearable. I have had the wheel trued by my lbs and have changed the pads, keeping to Dura ace pads. Changing the pads did make a difference at first but it wasn't long before the problem came back.
I have also cleaned the wheel using degreasing cleaners but the problem still persists.
Any advice or solutions to my problem would be very appreciated.

Try different pads? Get some Koolstop Salmon pads and see what happens. Is it contaminated with oil or something?

    Road - Dolan Preffisio
    MTB - On-One Inbred

I have no idea what's going on here.
  • Hi Declan,
I've tried replacement pads and have used different types of degreaser but to no avail. I have noticed that the pads are leaving a black mark on the off side of the wheel in one certain spot. I can't see or feel any damage to that area once its been cleaned.
Must say im at a bit of a loss as to what to try next :(

    Check the headset first...
Off the bike, Apply the front brake and push the bike forward and backwards... any play? if so then it is the headset that needs tightening.
Failing that, maybe the bearings in the front hub needs to be adjusted, which is possible in Dura Ace wheels, just read the manual. Lift the front wheel and check for lateral play on the rim... if you have play, then it is the bearings. Failing both, then you can start checking pads and rim surface

Agree with Ugo, headset bearings first and wheel bearings second
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

i say rim damage, the black mark on the rim is a dead give away, only needs to be very slight to cause the juddering.

I'd also say this sounds the more likely explanation given the symptoms described. Probably not what you wanted to hear...

My giant came with the C50's, the wheel was true, but found that the carbon was coming of the aluim.

Got it replaced. Never been 100% confident on them, still have some braking issues at high speeds.

  • Sorry for the delay in thanking you all for your valued advice. Ill defo be looking into headsets etc. Not to keen on selling them on just to let someone else have the problem. Fingers crossed theres a remedy here somewhere.

    cheers
