hi

Just converting my Tifosi CK7 to flatbar and have decided to give Sram DoubleTap shifters (3x9)a try as I love their road stuff on my other bike. I'm using Sram Rival front and rear derailleurs, but the front set-up is a pig, I juts cannot get it to work.

Every other bike I have ever owned has the exact same FD setup, cable should be reasonably taut, but not too tight. With the doubletap shifters, I have to leave a good inch or more of slack to allow it to work, which looks stupid having a sagging cable hanging from downtube.

What am I doing wrong?

  • I can't think of any FD setup that should have an inch of sag for it it work properly. The fact that you need so much slack suggests that the shifter is pulling the cable too much for some reason. It could be that there is a fault with the shifter or perhaps you are unintentionally shifting twice when you press the lever?

are you using a triple chainset, or a double/compact?

The only doubletaps I've set up were 2x10 and although they weren't that easy to set up (the action isn't as good as Shimano, it has to be said) I didn't have any slack cable issues.

Just to be clear, are you using MTB shifters with road mechs??

I think the 3 x 9 ones are for MTB front mechs; this from a description on Amazon:

    "FD/Shifter Compatibility: Mountain Triple"

The 2 x 10 speed stuff I think works with certain SRAM double road mechs...
