Hi

I'm off to Girona next week, and wanted to do a spot of riding. Can anyone recommend any rides and/or mountains gettable from Girona. I'm prepared to drive about an hour or two for really good starting points.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I had one of them red bikes but I don't any more. Sad face.

The roads in Montseny national Park (Turo de l'Home climb) SW of Girona
The coastal road between LLoret and Sant Feliu
The climb to Mare de Deu des Angels
Cols north of Ripoll, like Castellar de n'Hug, back over La Mollina (more major road, still scenic)

That's all I've done around there - all highly recommended

I imagine some of the places on the coast like Lloret will b absolutely heaving in summer - major north European tourist destination, a German/Dutch Benidorm

  • please post a trip report when you get back in this forum
would love to hear what it was like

looked into it myself a few months back

you can look up Lance and Hincapie's old training loops, I think :)

bike hire shops can tell you I guess, if you're hiring

Hi - well, I didn't do as much cycling as I planned in Girona, but that was due to family stuff rather than a lack of opportunities. I did hook up with the a couple of rides with http://www.gironacyclecentre.com/ who I'd strongly recommend. I rode on their Thursday group rides which are free rides open for anyone to join in... they were great as some of the local pro women racers joined in - very friendly! I took my own bike, but they had plenty of bikes for hire, and customers of theirs raved about the high quality of their service. Hope that helps.
