Just setting off in too high a gear, car came ragging round corner and I had to go for it track stylee, clunk. But why? Surely chain rings are more robust than this suggests.

  • Wow! I bent one once on a cheap Carrera from Halfords but it was new and faulty and didn't bend like that - how old was that ring?

PS - Are you Chris Hoy on steroids?

Looks like an oldish ring from the Square Taper cranks it's attached to, and it has failed through a hole where a shifting pin was. Age is a factor.
You just put more stress through the ring than it could handle. Grrrrr.

Drive train components don't last forever unfortunately.
