Do you use liquid latex when repairing tubs?

Trying to research repairing my own tubs and have read that latex is used to glue to protective cotton tape back down over the stitching. Is this correct? If so, is it just liquid latex or does it need an adhesive in it as many of the products I have seen for sale are for theatrical use etc and they state that heir latex won't stick to skin etc....

If not latex, then what is used in manufacture?

Personally I don't trust liquid latex and I use normal tubular glue. I did try to glue the base tape with Copydex, but it can be peeled off effortlessly, which doesn't fill me with confidence
