tyre boots

hi all .can you please tell me are tyre boots for sidewall cuts in tyres or can you use them on the part witch touches road. never used before but had blowout today long walk as when put new tube in poked through when blown up.

    you can use a tyre boot to stop the tube poking out at any point on the tyre. I carry an old piece of tyre that I've cut the bead off in my saddle bag but in the past I've resorted to finding an old plastic bag at the side of the road folding it in half and half again 4-5 time and riding home with that.

    I carry a section of plastic milk carton in my saddle bag. Whatever you have, as long as the same diameter of your tyres, it will cover all eventualities of side wall cuts/blow-outs/holes etc.
