    Beware the stranger.

I once had a mechanical in Lincoln, another cyclist stopped and said he could help as he had the parts to fix it at his house.

I followed him home and well you know he tried it on, man on man like, wanted to do that to me, you know what men do to each other, never moved so fast in my life, bike on shoulder, ran like a b--tard.

    Never been back to Lincoln.

You dug up a six year old thread in order to make a joke about homosexuals?

Real life experience pal, don't judge me by your standards.

Too late mate, I already did. Are you so determined to express your casual homophobia that you need to dig up old fossils like this. Try the cake stop instead...

Who made you judge and juror on this board, about time you wound your neck in and stopped thinking you know everything about everything and everyone.

Just expressing my opinion, mate. There’s a lot of unintentional irony in your last post...
  • When I'm out cycling if I pass someone stopped on road who looks like might need assistance I always ask if they need help. It would be a sad world if we rode around giving a little wave to each other but didn't actually help if needed.

Disagree. I think most people are decent, even in the UK.

I've helped out complete strangers before, haven't you?

I agree with you. If I see someone at the side of the road with their bike upside I'll give a shout of 'everything ok?' as I pass. The last time I had a puncture there were a few people that asked if I was ok.
Why don't you just stop to offer assistance? Is your ride that important that you can't spare a couple of minutes with the stranded rider?

The guy you are talking to has only been online once in the last three and a half years...

So stating simple facts now means you need to 'get a life'? Who made you judge and juror Wayne? Keep it up - you're doing great...

Ah Wayne! I see you have fallen victim to the self appointed humour police or the perpetually outraged (usually on behalf of unknown others)

Imagine if the rescuer in your story had been a woman and you had had to make your excuses and leave to ward off her unwanted sexual advances. Would that cause offence on here?

Or if it was a female cyclist fleeing the clutches of a would be lothario? That same offence would no doubt turn to sympathy.

Or how about a female cyclist fleeing from an unwanted lesbian encounter? Perhaps a more difficult one for the permanently aggrieved, weighing up the "Me too" issues against the charge of being homophobic?

Or Wayne's post could be nothing more than a nod to Frank Wilson, formerly of this forum, who posted his views expressing his disgust on homosexuality? Oh and hedgehogs. I seem to recall Frank had a thing about hedgehogs.

  • Minding my own business riding along at 20mph and a car drives straight through me when he should have given way. Two young lads in a Transit van pull over. One checks me over for injuries and shock. The other walks around the accident scene taking pictures.
I'm walking wounded with a smashed up bike. They offer to take me and the bike home, but I live 10 miles away - not in the direction they are going. Absolutely no hesitation they insist that they'll ferry me home.
Acts of kindness help the world run more smoothly.

Before or after they gave the car driver a good kicking?
  • cycling in peeing rain couple weeks back im cycling along a country road up here in Scotland, taking off a soaken glove and my wedding ring come flying off and pings in to a grass verge. Slam the anchors on and start searching in the grass for it, fearing there is little to no chance, and can imagine the reaction I'll get from the Mrs who has been at me to get it resized. Car behinds me stops to ask if everything os ok, tell them what happens and they get out to help me, evening though it is biblical rain. Car coming the other way stops and asks what has happened, tell them and they help too. Remarkably we actually find it after a couple minutes. Restores faith in real human kindness.
  • Cycling home after a cracking day, I see a bike ahead... my immature instinct is catch and pass at great speed.

Catching too quick the person is walking up a long drag, closer yet it’s a woman... stop and inquire, 3rd puncture of the day she’s had another 5 miles to walk. I’m only 2 miles from home and offer to pick her up and get her home. I duly did to her amazement.. I said we are cyclists it’s what we do for each other.

She offers money, at which point I say, I raise money for the amazing CHAS charity in Scotland. She has donated £30 and we have been out on a few rides since.

Happy days and a random act of kindness is rare and beautiful thing.

not cycle related but i was on holiday in Zante back in around 2000 and hired a moped / scooter to get away from the estranged girlfriend who i was with well after a few hours touring the island, i was up some hills / mountains and the scooter conked out!!!

I hadn't realised the petrol gauge was on its blink so here i am in the middle of nowhere with no petrol so i walked along this road and found a old house in the distance so i knocked on the door and a very old greek guy (80s) came out i tried to explain what had happened as he didn't speak any English but basically pointed to a large empty bottle of water then told me to come around the back of his house.........there was a shed that the door took some opening as in it hadn't been opened in years so we managed to open the door and in the mist of the dust there was a old Grandad 90 Motorbike he cleaned the dust of it give it a few good pumps and it fired up and pushed it out and basically pointed me to the direction of a garage the empty wattle bottle was for the petrol so i did and returned the bike to him and was willing to give him money but he wouldn't take anything of me.

    amazing i thought.
