Hello,
As the heading says,i want to put some modern bars and ahead stem on my old Colnago,i know its sacralidge but i cant get my position right. So what do you think would be the best set up so it doesn't jump in your face as soon as you see it.

Thanks for looking.

You can get a quill adaptor that you simply fit into your fork steerer - it gives you a bare steerer to which you can fit an ahead stem. Only other option is to change the forks and Colnago ones don't come cheap
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Is there such a thing as a 'steerer tube extension' that will allow a clamp-on stem to work with a 1 inch threaded steerer tube?
    I found this -

which looks like it is what you want.

It would basically be an aluminum cylinder with a diameter to accept the clamp-on stem, and with a reduced section to fit into the fork steer tube - drilled & slotted for the old-syle stem wedge.

Also check this out, same thing:

After that you will need a stem to fit a 1" steerer tube - maybe something like this?

Another alternative would be to change the forks too, although you would need to find some with a 1" non-threaded steerer.

If you want to commit double sacrilege, I have a pair of 1" Easton EC90 SL full carbon forks lying around, with the steerer cut to just over 22cm... Not made any more and not easy to find... I keep meaning to get around to flogging them on ebay. Yours for £100..

    Thankyou all,
And thanks for the offer of the forks but i will decline and stick with the Precisa that they come with.

    Cheers.

I do! Are you interested? One problem is that I'm in Finland, so the postage might be a few quid. Although I'll be back in the UK in August or September.

The forks were only used for a few hundred miles on a steel frame that was a bit too big for me. Very superficial marks on the steerer from the stem clamp etc, impressions on the dropouts and brake attachment hole, as per normal. Could post pics.

What wrong with the position then. Quill stems come in a variety of lengths from 60mm to 140mm so finding the right length should be a problem. 26.0mm bars of various shapes are available too so just changing to a ahead system won't solve your position issue unless you know the solution. The solution exists with a a quill stem as easilly as it does with the Ahead stem. I like both as all my road bikes have 1" steerer tubes (dinasour I know) so finding quill stem solutions is something I do.
