Hi, was planning on replacing the seals and bushings in my RP2 today but the bolts were really tight, using my best allen set I got the bottom one undone OK but the top bolt just disintegrated on the first turn.

So, any suggestions on how I can get the bolt out before I use a hacksaw?

Also where can I get a replacement from?

Thanks

  • Take it to someone that knows what they're doing and get it removed.... drilling it out is an option!

Tap in a Torx splined bit and you might get it out. Soak it overnight with lots of release oil like Plusgas. Next time use a torque wrench and a spot of copaslip to stop it happening again, spare parts can be got from Mojo.

Bit pedantic, but you realise that is neither a Fox bolt, nor is it sheared.

    Thanks.

Where can I get an identical bolt from though?
There's nothing about bolts on MOJO for example.

Because it's unique to the frame, whatever that is, nothing to do with Fox.

Although any bolt of the right size will do in a pinch.

Cheers, I'll see if I can locate a black one with allen head.

the least two important things to consider.

talk to a shop that sell whatever bike it is as that is the most likely place to get a replacement ordered. nothing to do with Fox.

Thanks, just phoned one which will order me an original replacement on Monday, I'll drill this one out once I have the new one.

    Thanks all.

And while you're at it, buy yourself some good quality allen keys. Halford Professional range are pretty good, or if you want the Rolls Royce of tools, go for Bondhus or Snapon.

I was using good ones, park tools hex wrenches.
IMO it's a design fault with the top bolt, the hole is very shallow compared to all the others, maybe only 3mm or so.
