i have a 2011 felt b2 with dura ace di2 tt groupset. went to go for a cycle and checked the battery life indicator and it came up solid red. (rain came on so i never went for the ride) but i had the battery on the charge dock and put it back in and its still solid red :/

when you put the batter in the charge dock is there meant to be a solid light on?

when i set the battery in the dock the left hand light goes orange for 4 seconds and then goes out.

so somethings not right because the battery isnt getting charged.

anyone got any good ideas/fettling tips/tests i could do to figure out whats wrong.

worst case scenario is buying new parts but really hoping it isnt going to come to that. is there anywhere you can get cheap aftermarket chargers etc?

thanks

  • dont know if this is just me but i THINK im finding really small slight damp patches in the bottom of the charger and ports on the battery! what does that mean ! :/
  • I'd find out where your nearest Shimano dealer/service centre is. There are Di2 diagnostic tools out there which should be able to check the battery etc.

I use morgan blue aquaproof paste on the external ports (battery when it was external and the ports on the mechs that will get wet) keeps water out. It could be a bit of water has caused corrosion on the battery terminals. Maybe give it a bit of WD40 and a rub with a cloth and see if anything comes off? If not then as suggested above goto a dealer with the diagnostic equipment

Did you find out why the charge light only ever comes on for a few seconds then goes off?

I'm having the same problems and I'm guessing its either a duff battery or a duff charger. Though I've got no proof yet
Unlike you though I'm not finding damp patches on the battery holder or on battery nor charger.

Trying to find a shimano service centre through their website has not come up with anything, will be calling a few LBS around here and see if I can find any joy. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Are you sure that you are checking the charge properly. Pressing the button beside the indicator light sets up the system for fine adjustment in this mode the light shows solid red. Instead press any of the shift buttons for 2 sec and see what light comes on.
(I speak from experience I thought mine was having problems when I got it)
  • we might have a genius in the thread ^^
so the indicator that connects onto the cables near the front brake (on mine anyway) has two lights.
the top light has a battey sign in white beside it and the bottom light has a +/- sign. so when i connect the battery and hold the button on the indicator it turns on and shows a solid right light in the bottom of the two lights ie. the one with the +/-. so what is that light indicating? i held in a shifter button and the top light (with the battery sign) came up solid green.

soooo.. maybe the battery is full and thats why the light keeps going out because the battery has been fully charged, silly me.... so then what does the solid red bottom light mean and what do the +/- lights mean?

    thanks!

    Do you have this

    Shimano_SM-EW90-B_E-tube_Di2_Junction-A_5_port.jpg?width=570&height=428

It's called Junction A, the two lights show battery charge (green solid when shifter held for 2 secs is 100%-50% charge, flashing green is 50%-25% charge, red is less than 25% charge). The +/- light is the adjustment mode light. If you hold the small button down on junction A it will light up after a second or so, this then means the rear mech is in adjustment mode to allow you to index the rear mech.

If there is a constant red light on the +/- indicator without you having pressed the button on junction A then the system is in protection mode.
  • sweeet im a plonker then.

yes i must have a junction a slightly different look to that but same button and two lights display.

so to check the battery you have to hold a shifter for 2 seconds in which case mine shows up solid green ie 100%-50%

when i hold that button in a red light shows solid for the +/- which must be adjustment mode. is it ok to be in adjustment mode or is protection mode better and how do you switch between the two?

this is great, thank you. i dont have to spend anymore money :)

Adjustment mode is for indexing, the protection mode is if you have crashed. Is it Ultegra or DuraAce di2 you have?
  • dura ace.

I have the diagnostic tool of which you speak. It's very useful. Does much more than diagnose faults.

great i might look into getting one. but id like to think the system doesnt require too much diagnosing.

You aren't the first to do this and people have even rubbished the system saying it had failed, when all they had done was put it into adjustment mode.

RTFM springs to mind but we are blokes so that's just not going to happen.
