Play in front wheel

Hello everyone.
As the title says I have play in my front wheel.
I only bought the bike a week ago (Defy 1 Brand New)
I have tightened the cones as much as I can without using excessive force, I put the wheel into a cycle trainer to clamp it so know the problem is with the wheel.
Any thoughts on what to do next?
I'm yet to contact Tredz about the issue but will be if I can't find a quick fix.

Your message does not sound correct (without using excessive force).
Please read the park tools website on adjusting wheel bearings.

Bring it to a bike shop if you aren't a particularly skilled or experienced mechanic.. Hubs have a small tolerance and require an experienced tech.0

I've been maintaining various bikes for the last 10 years or so, had similar problems on BMX and MTB and always managed to sort it out but struggling with this one.
Thanks for the replies, looks like a bike shop visit0 -

If you have the bog standard 2013 model it looks like the wheels do not have cup and cone bearings but cartridges.
"Giant’s own P-R2 wheels with sealed bearings" quote, unquote.0 -
It's a 2014, the wheels are listed as "P-Elite C Wheelset"
100% certain they have cones mate.0 -
I could still be very wrong though haha!0

Similarly, Giant’s make their own P-Elite sealed cartridge bearing wheels with their own made-to-match to tyres to create a set of hoops that are a match for anything else at this price0 -

How would I go about fixing the problem then? It's been like this since it arrived.
Is it now time to contact the retailer?
Thanks for the help btw, as you can tell this isn't exactly a strongpoint of mine.0 -
It would appear that contacting the retailer would be the best option irregardless of whether the hubs are cartridge or cup and cone. The wheel is not of merchantable quality, to use the correct phrasing under the sale of goods act.0
