Entering a phase of broken spokes after each good beating ride on the epic, so thinking a stronger rear is in order, What's decent strong rear to replace the standard DT Swiss 26er, ideally less than £200

Alright mate.
Get a pair of Superstar Switch with Flows, then get them rebuilt professionally before they lose all tension! £200 plus £20 at the LBS.

how much do you weight and what sort of trails do you ride?
Both the Flow and EX721 are downhill rims so while strong are also heavy. You maybe able to get away with a lighter rim. I weight 90kg and ride mainly ride XC but ride hard, so try to get wheels off the ground and do some small jumps and mid sized drops etc and my Stans Crest rims have been fine.
Also when one spoke breaks are you just replacing the the one that broke? Often when a spoke breaks the spokes either side get fatigued too as they have more load on them so will fail soon too. If you only replace the broken spoke then you end up chasing the broken spokes continuously around the wheel.0
