Stuart O'Grady retires

So it turns out Stuey should have had a ceremonial blast down the Champs. Good way to bow out in one of best recent editions of the Tour with the TTT victory and 2 yellows to defend. One of the good guys?

Only used it once for 98 (which is where he has now tested positive) and then quit with Festina. It sounds a bit too similar to his mate Millar's story... and until today Zabel had only tried it once...
He probably is a good guy. But there still seems to be an inability to be truly open and transparent about what went on in that era. Perhaps that's where Cookson's approach might help...0 -
It almost seems too convenient that he only doped for that one Tour but it's a sad story rather than anything else. The sooner the sport can move on from the past the better. Well known what the situation was so cycling needs to acknowledge that so there aren't continual exposes forever more.0

I'm upset about this -

Cycling always has been and always will be dirty, that's the sorry truth of the matter!
Immediate retirement after just signing a new contract! ...Immediate retirement mid way through a big tour = no testing on the athlete; it's blatant doping and the oldest trick in the book.0 -

Announcing his retirement mid-way through the race doesnt remove him from the testing pool during the race for random testing (or if he'd won or placed high on a stage, taken a jersey etc). As long as the rider's still riding, they're in that testing pool.0
