I'm sure there would have been quite a few on the forum that took part in the annual ride to Southend. How did you guys get on?

I bought a second hand road bike 4 weeks ago and after putting in some legwork I took part yesterday. I managed not one but two personal bests yesterday, as I managed to complete the 52.5mile ride in 2hrs 54m at an average of 18.1mph.

I'm very chuffed as I've never had an average of 18mph and my previous 52m best was 2h 58m but the cherry on the cake for me is that so far I've managed to raise £737 for Little Havens a childrens hospice that provides amazing care for terminally ill children.

If anyone would like to donate you still can on this link here https://www.justgiving.com/alex-boo

I was there and had a decent ride nothing amazing. It was my second "event" after doing the Great Kent ride in June.

Came in at 3.00.01. We were hoping to get in around 2.50 but ended up setting off late and lost a LOT of time in the first 15 miles coming out of London in traffic and getting stuck behind people going very slowly up some of the smaller hills. The disappointment of being one second over three hours too !!!

    So I didn't hit the magical 18mph average :(

Still thats part of a charity ride I guess.

Was good fun and after the first 15 miles was a great route and will def be back next year !!

  • it was my first event and I did it in 3 hours 57 mins.I wanted to do it in 3.30 but we ended up wasting alot of time waiting for our team mates and I wasn't as fit as I hoped to be due to moving house and other stuff going on.

My average was about 15mph which I was quite happy with given my lack of bike fitness.

Can't wait to do it next year. Now I'm planning the next event!!
