redbull soapbox race presenter

This has been bugging me since watching the race on Dave (Gee Atherton and Danny MacAskill were judges so there's a link to MTB). Did anyone else notice the presenter Alice Levine say the Stephenson's rocket based soapbox looked "more train than rocket"? She's supposed to be university educated and claims she used to mark SAT papers, and she doesn't know what Stephenson's rocket was?

Rant over

Is it possible she studied Media Studies, or English Lit and not History? Some people have absolutely no interest in different subjects than the area they studied. It's not uncommon, and doesn't make you stupid for not knowing something you think 'common knowledge'
It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

I once had to explain to my nieces teacher in simple words that Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Treasure Island and definitely didnt invent the steam locomotive.

Maybe you're taking things a bit too literally.

I know it shouldn't bother me but it does.
A couple of months ago me and a few friends decided we are going to build a soapbox racer and enter some local events. Watched that for ideas.

What I mean is, maybe it was a (admittedly poor) play on words.

Wrong, the words in the parentheses don't affect the "a". Not in my book anyway, and I wrote the book, So I know it's correct.

I'm with yeeha - you read the sentence without the parentheses, so it remains 'a'.

Having a university education doesn't mean you are intelligent. I know a lot of people where this applies.

Do you think she'd believe me if I told her that my gentleman's excuse me was Stephensons rockery and that she could holdPolish it if she likes?

I thought when it was plural you didnt use an apostrophe. Well you learn something new every day.

Well, if you have nieces and they have a teacher, then it's your nieces' teacher.

Plural? Niece's is possessive as in niece's teacher. Mongs is plural. As in you are a multiple mong.

You're right, you don't use an apostrophe when it's a plural.....do you have two nieces in one class?
