Tyres

I have Schwalbe Ultremo tyres that came with my bike, been reading a few comments on the board and people have mentioned having different tyres for winter riding. Does this mean my Schwalbe Ultremo tyres are not any good for winter?

Great tyres generally, but after 1500 miles they have a few nicks and have started to thread badly on the side walls which led me to get some Conti GP4000s which IMO feel dull in comparison. So much so that I've put the Ultremo's on my new Planet X clinchers! But for winter probably not the best.Trainer Road Blog: https://hitthesweetspot.home.blog/

Ultremos are a light weight racing tyre with low rolling resistance, but they do cut up quite quickly. They are perfectly good all year round but will have a shorter life. Normally in the winter when people aren't racing, they want a harder wearing tyre that will resist the flints and road grit that is worse in the winter.
GP4000S are Continental's race tyre and are a bit more resistant then Ultremo, but for a good all round training/winter tyre I would recommends the Continental 4 Seasons.Summer - Canyon Ultimate CF SLX 9.0 Team
Winter - Trek Madone 3.5 2012 with UDi2 upgrade.

I use Ultremos all year round in all conditions and no problems. As Gizmodo says, they are prone to cuts which are mpore likely in the wet with lots of detritus on the road. As far as grip goes they are brilliant in wet weather.0
