I intend to ride the Taff Trail. Can anyone give me guidance as to whether I require a mountain bike or a hybrid. Cardiff to Merthyr looks fine for a hybrid but will it cope with the trail through the top of the beacons and down to the canal? Practical advise would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    There is a bit of rough track riding, but most is on canal path or road.
    I did it on a 100mm ht for a fundraising event from Brecon to Cardiff, quite a few people were on hybrids, cyclocross bikes and even supermarket specials.
