Noisy drivetrain after replacing wheels

I have a Trek Madone which I have just upgraded the wheels on to Fulcrum 3s. The bike has only done approx 500km, but since changing to the new wheels, the drivetrain is very noisy and is making a rubbing noise in every gear. I have re-indexed the gears so that they are shifting crisply, however there is still this noise which is very annoying.

Any ideas?

You need to determine what is rubbing on what before you can attempt to fix it.

Did you transfer your old cassette / chain, or have you fitted new ones with the new wheels?

If you've kept the old chain, did it stay on the bike or remove it and refit it?

    C'mon, give us some clues!

sounds like you have not correctly set up your gears.

Transferred the old cassette, when I say 'old' it was a week old and had done 200km. The chain remained on the bike whilst I fitted the new wheels.

Well if the cassette is installed with spacer(s) if required and the lock-ring adequately torqued up, as Nicklouse says, the only thing left is to accurately index the gears. Not just so that they change, but so that they are spot-on and running quietly when in gear.
  • Is the cassette wobbly had it got play in it? Did you move all the spacers over? A missing spacer is the mostly likely cause.

Not uncommon for the indexing to be a bit off after a wheel change.

Not all wheels have exactly the same hub dimensions, so even when you use the old cassette it may be a fraction out from its previous position.

Time to get nifty with the barrell adjuster.
