On-one bike?

Hi guys,

I’ve opened a thread - viewtopic.php?t=12931870 – where I’ve asked for advice on which components should I buy to build a custom bike. Nevertheless, after some debate and good advice from helpful forum colleagues I’ve decided to buy a “ready to ride” bike.

I am inclined to buy an On-one bike as I think they have a good quality/price ratio …

However, I've been doing some investigation in other forums and I’ve seen nasty feedback in regards to the customer’s support of several different brands.

So, before I make my mind I would like to hear about your experiences with On-one.

Thanks!

P.s. – for the record I didn’t find any bad feedback on On-one bikes… but I would like to confirm!

I've got an On One Scandal. It's great, I love it (link in sig)

My roadie mate has an On One road frame, it cracked a year or so out of warranty and they gave him a big discount off a replacement frame, so service seems ok from what I know.

I've never heard of On One frames giving trouble, I've got Planet X wheels and they are fine, and all the other components are just bits common to all other bikes so......

Only complaint is the person who writes stuff on their website is a bit confused most of the time.

Crap, ive had horrible experiences with both On-One and Planet x. I will not be buying anymore products from them! Definitely not a bike. Ive purchased multiple sets of wheels all of which broke within weeks and then took ages to get replaced after to speaking to countless unhelpful representatives of the company (Apparently the hub, rims and spokes arent under warranty? Work that one out if you can...) all the kit i have bought from them began fraying and stitching came undone etc. within weeks (Which they wont replace) And im not the only on who agrees with this, people in my club have had the same problems and would agree with every word i have said. I would say to stay away from them for now as they seem to be having serious problems with quality!

On-One are good if your on a really tight budget, that's about as good as they get; I have bought a couple in the past, but wouldn't buy another or recommend to a friend.

I obviously meant Planet X road frame. Same difference.
  • By a matter of fact I am looking to buy this one:

Because they're frames are made from cheap grade heavy steel. They're fine if you don't have a flexible budget and want a custom build, otherwise you'd get much better value for money elsewhere.

And why that's relevant to this thread!?

Er right, except for the ones made out of aluminium, carbon and titanium I suppose?

The paint quality is shocking on all the bikes I've seen from them, seriously just looking at some of them puts a scratch or scuff in the paint! But then they are cheap, they're pretty well made, they ride well enough. I bought my 456 as it was light, the right size and the right price at the time. It's a decent frame, nothing spectacular, but it's pretty versatile and it is very light for how strong it is. It is however the first bike I've ever owned that I'm really not fussed about. Nice bike to ride, bit harsh of a ride over a few hours, but it doesn't scream out for me to ride it. Basically it does a job well enough but doesn't shout about it and I kind of expected more in that respect, but then as I say for the price it aint half bad.

And the ones made from made from 853 steel.
  • Hi guys,

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Ok, I see that there are a lot of different opinions. Some good, some bad… Despite that some guys love their On-one bike, there are others that don’t like them really.

As I said, I am still looking to options, instead of opening other thread I will ask it here…

What is the opinion in regards to choosing the CANNONDALE FLASH 29'ER ALLOY 2 instead of On-one?

    Cheers

    Hi,

The On-one that I was looking at was also 29er... I am looking for a 29er!

I have a friend that takes part of the XC Portuguese championship (being on the top of the table) and he told me that everyone there is moving to the 29ers, and that probably will be the future… So I will give it a try!

    Either On-on or Cannondale… it will be a 29er!

    Cheers!

Got 2 On One frames an 8 year old Scandal frame which is currently daggling from the roof trusses of the shed waiting for me to buy some superlightweight kit to make a weight weenie build and a 2 year old Inbred which is my single speed fixie rigid ride to work, the pub and round the local lanes bike.

On One service in my experience is excellent I had a problem with my first Scandal frame the post kept slipping because the seat tube had been reamed oversize, I emailed On One and a new frame arrived 36 hours later. Website is rubbish though think its run by a 12 year old who is payed in Haribo.

I have had an On One. Their customer service is excellent, the one timr I bought a faulty (SRAM) part from them they replaced it very quickly.
Their frames are a little crude and a little heavy but they are very cheap. They are also extremely strong, my 456SS had a season of downhill racing, alpine riding and freeride. To be honest im very surprised it survived in one piece.
  • Hi guys,

    Thanks everyone.

After all the feedback and an email sent to On-one on advice about customizing a bike that came back saying you should contact our factory team and not the sales team (which to be honest I thought that it was not the type of service I wanted, as a good customer’s service would have handled all internally without hassling the customer), I decided to buy a Cannondale Flash 29ER Alloy 2.

So again thanks every one for the feedback!

    Cheers!

That is pretty shoddy by On One I would have done the same and gone somewhere else. They get paid to do the job why should the customer the one with the money the one who pays the wages do the work. I bet the idiot who told you that sat at a desk 3 feet away from the other idiot who needed to deal with your enquiry but simply couldnt be arsed to pass on the email. I mean forwarding an email is such a lot of work these days those keyboards dont operate themselves you know

As I said I have had good service but it doesnt take much to blow your reputation and a lot to get it back.
