The Eagle of Toledo book
Just finished Alasdair Fotheringham's book on Bahamontes.
Fascinating character, and an interesting story. I remember when I read La Vuelta I was struck by what a backwater Spain was under Franco and this just reinforces that.
It's also a great read if you think everything used to be more exciting back in the day. It turns out back then people used to moan about cycling having no heroics and being too controlled. And when Van Looy and his red guard appeared it's like some of the complaints we hear now
Of course, if you like the romantic side, Fede will appeal as he attacked just to attack - He failed a lot but hey ho.
Good read and recommended. I found it heavier going than some of the cycling books I've read recently but I learnt a lot.
