Ridden my new Giant TCR advanced 2 for 250km and have a knocking noise from the BB area. Surely this is too soon for the bottom bracket to be worn, any idea what it is likely to be?

Thanks

Its not a BB30 by any chance is it?

It could be a lack of proper greasing (common on new bikes i find) in the general area, a loose crank, loose pedal etc etc.

No it isn't a BB30, a standard BB with Dura Ace Bottom Bracket.

Sure about that? I thought all the current TCRs had Shimano press fit BBs. Press fits can make all kinds of fun noises.

Had a quick look actually and it says Shimano Integrated? Is this press fit? Is it likely to be an easy fix?

If it doesn't have any visible notches or splines then it's press fit. The first thing I'd do is remove the cranks, inspect the bearings (turn by hand), then grease everything in sight and reassemble if they're ok.

Btw sounds that you think are coming from the BB often aren't.

Are you really sure it's coming from the BB? I've got a Defy advanced 2 with the same BB and after 1000Km I also heard a noise that I thought was the BB. Long story short, turns out it was the saddle bolt. So, one quick thing to try is stand up when you hear the noise and if it goes away, the seat is your problem. Also worth checking that the two bolts on the left hand pedal cranks are done up properly as this is also a common culprit.
