2 x 9 Shimano setup problem

Hi guys
Attempting to set up a 2 x 9 drivetrain on my Orange 5 AM and having problems with the chain and its alignment with the rear derailleur in particular the top jockey wheel. Chain wants to hang off the side of that when crank is turning, is it a spacer problem or the chain not being straight? Set the bottom bracket up as recommended when I bought the frame but not sure if its correct.
Set up is:
XT crank double and bash 22/32
Saint rear mech med cage 9 speed mode converter removed
XT cassette 9 speed 11-32
9 speed Shimano chain narrow
SLX 9 speed shifters
XT bottom bracket 1 spacer on drive side
Any suggestions it's doing me in
