London to Brighton tips

Myself and some friends are riding from South London to Brighton in a couple of weeks time. I have found a couple of routes online from people who have participated in one of the large charity rides. I'm looking for any tips or advice on the routes as I don't know how suitable they would be for a non organised ride.

Also if anyone can give me ideas on alternative routes and maybe some places en route to stop for lunch etc I would be very grateful.

The 2 routes are on this google maps link which I hope works, ignore the start of the one which goes from St Albans.

    The one on the right is much more like it - the more classic route with Turners Hill, Ditchling Beacon etc. - you really can't ride to Brighton without doing them - all part of the fun!

    That route you have has a number of slight long-cuts to keep the BHF ride off some of the really small lanes.

    The route I use down to Brighton is a bit more laney - and a very pleasant route:
