Loose cassette causing Drive train to Seize up

Has anyone had this happen or can explain what happened?-

Was bombing home when my pedals jammed completely, no joy upon inspecting the bike so I walked it home. The rear wheel was turning backward with the feeling that the brakes were rubbing (they weren't), and not spinning to well with a shunt forward using my hands.

Got it on the rack and as soon as I took the wheel of the lockring and small sprockets fell off. Putting it back together fixed the problem, so the cassette was loose but i am confused why this would cause the Cranks to Jam completely.

Any ideas why it came loose and why this would cause the cranks to complete jam like they did?

(Ultegra 10sp on Kysrum elite hubs)

Thanks

J

Poor installation - but how you didn't notice because your shifting would have been all to cock

poor fitting. look for the gouge mark on the drop out where the cogs jammed into the frame.

  • Shifting was spot on before the incident. So I am guessing it reached a point and the lockring just lost it quite quickly.

I will have a look for marks on the frame when i get back, Didn't occur to me that it could have been that.
