Hi All, I am in need of a reasonable hybrid bike mostly just for weekend use. The thing is I'm only going to need it for a year before I move countries so I really don't want to spend loads of money. I appreciate a too cheap bike will likely fall apart so I guess I'm looking for the cheapest reasonable quality bike that won't fall apart on me in a year! I'm leaning towards a hybrid but could go a mountain bike as well. What would you recommend? :)

Also I am 6'6/198cm so obviously a 25" frame would be ideal but how bad do you think it would be if I got a 23" one or even a 22" as there are better deals at that size?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Getting a slightly smaller bike - assuming not too much smaller! - gives a slightly more leant-forward position. A matter of personal preference whether this is a good thing, I think - I ride a Giant that's 1 size smaller than often recommended for my height around town and quite like it. Some people prefer a more upright position on commuters, though.
  • That's great advice, thanks both :)

if you look at bikes that have a good re-sale value (usually the main brands) then if you look after it you should get quite a bit of your money back after a year. If you look at second hand then the depreciation will be even less!

This is available in Jumbo and probably quite good for the price if it fits your needs http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m1b65s2p43 ... -SL-1-2012 Guessing the price is over your budget for short-term though.
