Hairline crack in fork
Hi all,
I have noticed a small hairline crack (possibly 2) at the top of my fork on my Kutoa kharma.

This is the best photo i could get, it is very fine but im worried it may fail whilst riding.
Any have any experience or thoughts?
thanks
Jarv.

Ask LBS if you are worried, the photo makes it look like a scratch.0

have you crashed or hit it ?
from the photo does look more like a scratch if so ride it...should be ok just keep an eye it doesn't get any bigger !0 -
I'd say try lean on the forks and make the crack bigger. If it's a crack it'll creak and move, and you'll get it replaced.
If it doesn't move or make a noise,it may still be a crack, so get it looked at:-)0 -
Looks like a scratch / paint crack - the fork crown is massively over-engineered and structural cracks usually start at a point of high stress and propagate from there - your 'cracks' go from nowhere to nowhere i.e. there's nothing to suggest an impact or point of weakness in the structure. Nothing to worry about IMO.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

That looks like an alloy steerer. If it is then the part with the crack is also aluminium - the top 2" or so before they glue the straight carbon legs on.
That won't crack - although the paint can. In any case nothing to worry about.I'm left handed, if that matters.0 -
thanks for the replies.
it hasnt been crashed, dropped or hit in any way, i did however hit a rather nasty pot hole the other day
Was looking over my shoulder as i heard a speeding car, as i looked back i ploughed straight into it.
i admit the crack is very faint and is only a 1.5" long and I was hoping it was a only a crack in the paint.
I will keep an eye on it over the next few daysKuota Kharma 20110
