Hi Guys, Wondering if anyone had any preferences for replacement tyres for hard track / trail that are ideally fast running.

Bike is a Carrera Vulcan, so as you can imagine the current tyre are huge and slow...Size 26x2.1

Cheers

Depends on your budget really! How much do you have to spend?

26 x 2.1's are on the narrow side of tyres so how narrow are you thinking of going.

2.1's are not huge, but how about a pair of Panaracer Fire XC Pro in 26x1.8"

Or just pump what you have up harder!

+1 for XC Fire Pros, great all round tyre in most conditions. Good grip on hard pack trails when run at around 30psi and quite fast rolling when pumped up to around 50psi on the road. I used to run 2.1's front and back.

  • Thanks guys much appreciated. Budget wise around the £20-£25 mark. Have looked at a few but am having some differing advice as you can imagine.

Have to ride a 52 miler in 5 weeks, which is going to be a mix of hard pack trail, tarmac and fire road. So ideally looking for something that should be able to handle all that plus allow some fast rolling...

    Cheers guys...

"mix of hard pack trail, tarmac and fire road"

Full on slicks will handle that no problem. Just slow extra for gravel corners.
  • Hi mate

What did you go for in the end as I have the same bike and same kinda riding?

    Cheers

Same conditions I ride. I chose Panaracer CG XC, so far they are great, very fast rolling but handle light mud, fire trails and forest tracks with confidence, not tried them in the wet yet, it's not rained here for 5 weeks.
