Afternoon All,

Need some advice please. I ride a Giant Defy 4 and the last 2-3 days i have noticed what can only be described as a knocking sound when peddling. It only happens when i'm seated too, if i stand then i dont have the issue. Any ideas? I dont feel any vibrations from the knocking sound so im guessing it may be something to do with the rear derailleur (sic)? I'm a Complete novice but its having a maintenance check soon but i'd like to go in the shop with an idea of what it could be incase parts need replacing and also so they dont replace parts unnecessarily.

Thanks in advance

  • I checked that this morning, all seems fine with that area. Anyone else throw any light on the situation?

Based on my own experiences with Giant Defy knocking, I'd get the wheel bearings checked out, closely followed by a look at the spokes. Mine had worked loose and were rubbing against each other causing a similar sound to the one you describe. Had bike serviced and it was sorted for a while but came back again and I've just bought a second hand pair of Mavic Aksiums to replace them and silence has returned!

Similar issue with my new Defy Advanced1 really annoying. Initially thought it was the BB but the noise stopped when out of the saddle. LBS new straight away, the rather long seat-post pivots around the clamp, knocking on the inside of the seat tube. Shortened the seat-post and applied some grease, noise gone! Still have an issue with the rattling of internally routed cables, fairly unsat for a bike of this level. These points aside I am loving my new bike.
