Do I need to get new wheels?

Hello! Hoping some knowledgeable person can help me out - this may be a fairly obvious question though.
I took my bike into a LBS for a service (first time I'd used that place and last time!) and it's come back with somewhat of a gash on the rim - is pretty small but looks pretty consistent to what might happen if, say, someone dropped a screwdriver pointy-end down on it. When I ride it now and apply the front break I get a ticking noise every time the brake goes past it and when I run my finger over it it's definitely not smooth.
I guess the question is - does that mean it's new wheel time and am I just going to wear down and trash my brake pad if I keep riding on it?

can you post a picture?
if it's just a light scratch then you can simply take off the burr with some fine abrasive papermy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
it will be fine, just rub of the rough edge of the scratch with a bit of emery paper.0
